Woolly Mammoth

Sunday 2nd December at 10.00am This is what time the ride will set off. It’s best to get to the starting point at least 15 minutes beforehand to avoid missing the start.

Starting Point & Postcode
Cossington Street Park - On grass close to Sports Centre LE4 6JD
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
2 hours 0 mins  (1 hours 20 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Sky Ride Local in Leicester

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

A mainly flat 8.6 mile ride along the River Soar from Abbey Park to Watermead Park. Cycle under the gaze of the Woolly Mammoth; see the National Space Centre and the Museum of Technology and enjoy the wonderful parkland and riverside paths that this area has to offer. Suitable for road bikes - this mainly a traffic free ride and is a great family cycling experience.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Mike Ball Mike Ball Have been cycling for many years both as an all weathers commuter and a member of the Leicester Spokes cycling (http://www.leicesterspokes.org.uk) group. I particularly enjoy cycle touring in Scotland and Europe, and longer rides such as our annual overnight ride from London to Leicester. My ambitions are to cycle across the USA and China, perhaps all the way around the world? I try to use my bike for most trips and want to encourage people to look on bike travel as everyday transport, not just something for the weekend. I look forward to meeting you on a ride.
  • David Kirkland David Kirkland I have cycled since I was a child mainly as a means of getting around rather than competition cycling. I then moved on to driving but returned to cycling for leisure, firstly mountain biking then roads in order to cycle longer distances.

I have cycled some of the longer Sustrans routes such as the C2C, NCN6 and the Taff Trail. I have also cycled on holidays in the Alps, the Loire Valley, Belgium, The Netherland and in Paris.

I will be leading rides in the Leicester and Birmingham areas this summer and look forward to meeting you on some of the Sky Rides.
