Sky Ride Local in Southampton

If you're fairly confident on your bike on dirt and gravel surfaces and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Off-Road Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, there is barely a metre of tarmac in sight on these rides so come and enjoy the scrunch of gravel and the squelch of mud under your tyres with us! Rides are between 6 and 15 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Join us on this wonderful heathland adventure of just over 11 miles. We wend our way through the historic forest enclosures dating back to the days of King William II. Our destination is the King's garden, a lovely scenic spot to have a breather and a well-earned snack before we continue on our travels through the New Forest back to Acres Down House.

*The Postcode listed is for the Acres Down Farm Shop, the Public Car Park is sign posted from the farm cross roads.*

Vincent Licence I have been riding since I was 3 years old, so that makes it 54 years of cycling! I am very lucky as I live on the edge of the New Forest, there are some lovely rides for all abilities and age groups all over the Forest. The coast is not far, so you will quite often see me pottering along on one of my favourite ride's from Lymington to Keyhaven. I enjoy cycling, as a pastime and commuting to work, but even more so when introducing people to the best way to see and hear the Countyside. I am also a Bikeability / National Standard Instructor, and cater for all age groups and abilities so feel free to ask me any questions /concerns that you may have about cycling in general or riding on todays busy roads. Please do read the route details of your chosen ride, we want you to get the best out of the rides, make sure the ride is the right one for you. All bikes must be fit for purpose, please do a safety check before a ride, brakes working, tyres pumped up etc. A faulty bike could ruin your day and the great experience of riding with skyride local. We do carry some innertubes, however, it would be best to bring your own...just in case. On the New Forest rides there are a few 'Bumps' but nothing serious. Great rides for those who are begining to venture out a bit more. Although the tracks are mainly gravel, it can get a bit muddy in some places, especially after a spot of rain aka 'liquid sunshine', but thats all part of the fun! Finding the meeting point. As of late quite a few people have had trouble finding the meeting points in The New Forest. Satnav users beware! Post codes in the open countryside often cover a wider area than in Towns, Satnavs will direct you to the middle of a post code area, or as near to as roads allow, however, the actual meeting point could be up to a couple of miles away! so, always double check on a map. If you come unstuck on the day, just call the ride leaders. We are more than happy to help. Have a great ride, Vincent

  • David Marsh Friday 11th July This was a truly brilliant ride. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, this ride has never been repeated again, which is a very great shame!!
