Sky Ride Local in Bournemouth

If you’re fairly confident on your bike on dirt and gravel surfaces and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Off-Road Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, there is barely a metre of tarmac in sight on these rides so come and enjoy the scrunch of gravel and the squelch of mud under your tyres with us! Rides are between 6 and 15 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

This is a real history trip touching many eras. Starting in sight of the lovely St Stephen's Church, we circle National Trust property Kingston Lacy on wide bridleways with beautiful countryside views.  We then go on to visit Shapwick village via country lanes before climbing up and around Badbury Rings to observe the mile long Beech tree avenue planted as an anniversary present for the Lady of the Manor.  Join us on this 9 mile off-ride that really is the jewel in the crown!

  • Matt Matthews Matt Matthews Hi,

I have been a keen cyclist for over 30 years and with the exception of about 3 years, I have commuted to work by bike come snow, rain or sun, since 1982.

I have a mountain bike to get to work at Bournemouth School and a racing bike I use when I am out with Christchurch Bicycle Club.

I am glad to have the opportunity to encourage members of the public to either get back on a bike again or get on one for the first time.

If you are new to cycling and need any advice on buying a bike please feel free to ask for some advice when you come on a Sky Ride event.

    Hope to see you soon.
  • Rob Doyle Rob Doyle This is my second year as a Sky Ride Leader. I also deliver the National Standard Cycle Training (Bikeability) all across the local area.
I have recently set up a social cycling group based at Ferndown Leisure Centre - mainly off road rides on the local trails.
I have discovered a real passion for cycling, especially in the last 5 years or so and I am keen to encourage more people, young and old, to get on their bikes.
