Sky Ride Local in Warwickshire

Join us on some amazing rides, created in association with our friends at the National Trust. Make the most of some beautiful countryside, and great facilities for cyclists.

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

This scenic 18 mile ride is a great excuse to spend a couple of hours exploring the beautiful Warwickshire Countryside. We begin at Warwickshire Racecourse and ride south through Longbridge and over the M40 bridge, waving goodbay to the urban noise and saying hello to the quiet countryside. Forking past Sherbourne Park we cycle down Fulbrook Lane, meandering and rolling through the fields and past the woods towards the quaint setting of Hampton Lucy. Crossing over the River Avon we enter Charlecote and the glorious grounds of Charlcote Park for a refreshment in an idyllic setting surrounded by wildflowers, lambs and fawns.Just down the road we pass the Wellbourne Mountford Airfield and the Avro Vulcan XM655. The Vulcan can taxi along the runway however due to the short length of the runway it cannot take off, so it is considered grounded. We meander through Wellesbourne and Newbold Pacey continuing on the quiet country lanes enjoying the scenery. At Oakley Wood we turn back towards Royal Leamington Spa through Barford and picking back up the cycle lane at Sherbourne Park back to the racecourse.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Gareth Somers
    Gareth Somers Hello "Sky Riders"

I came back to cycling some several years ago with an eight mile Sunday morning ride to try and get fit for my first thirty two mile charity ride.
Then I truly got the bug, I love being out on my bike in all weather especially in the sun and ridding with like minded cyclists.
I joined the Skyride team in 2013 and love to see the enjoyment people get (both young and old) from getting out on the bikes and exploring the countryside.I hope you enjoy your Skyride as much as the ride leaders do!
Really looking forward to spreading the word of how much fun cycling can be, lets hope the sun shines this summer on our Sky Rides!!

Ride safe, looking forward to meeting you on your next Sky Ride.

  • Nicholas Skinner
    Nicholas Skinner Hi I'm Nick,
I started riding at the age of 5 and have never looked back. Well only when about to make a turn that is.
I ride to work and around the local Warwickshire country side most weekends and would love you to join me, British Cycling and Go Sky Ride. Whether you’re a first timer, returning and we've all been there too, or a regular cyclist,
    See you all soon
  • Angela Smith
Angela Smith Hi, I am mostly a leisurely cyclist, I like to get out into the local countryside on two-wheels to blow the cobwebs away.

I also cycle around town for work and shopping.

I am looking forward to helping to lead some Sky Rides in Warwickshire in 2013!
