Breeze Bike Rides in Brighton

Blow away the cobwebs with this easy and gentle ride along Hove seafront. Using the Sustrans National Route 2, we'll use mainly seafront cycle paths to get from the Peace Statue at the border between Brighton and Hove to Carat's cafe in Southwick (and then back again after some refreshments!).

The route is all flat, but the wind can make cycling in one direction a bit harder than the other; the wind usually blows in the direction that makes returning to Hove from Southwick much easier, thankfully.

Wearing a helmet is advisable; if you don’t have one please do not to worry you can still take part.  If you enjoy the bike ride and would like to come again perhaps you could look to buy one then.

It's a good idea to bring some water and you may also want to bring a snack (though we will be stopping at Carat's cafe for cake and a drink!).  Dress appropriately for the weather: in cool weather it's good to wear lots of thin layers, so you can add/remove them as needed; a rain jacket is a good idea too! Bring sun cream if the sun's out for us.

We really welcome newcomers to our rides; we will always ride at the pace of the slowest rider so no one is left behind. If you want to see what the route is like, here's a video we made when we rode this as a family friendly ride in February: http://youtu.be/7AD31-XPK6w

Look forward to seeing you there.

Meet the Champions

  • Alison Lewis
Alison Lewis Hi! I'm Alison, and looking forward to meeting you on one of the Breeze rides I’m leading. I live in Hove, but lead rides from Brighton as well as Hove (actually).

I love the freedom of cycling and also like setting myself challenges ... so last year (2013) I rode the London to Brighton, Rapha Women's 100, Wiggle New Forest 100, and also rode Land's End to John O'Groats unsupported for a significant birthday.

As well as being a Breeze Champion, I'm trained as a Bikeability Instructor, British Cycling Level 2 Cycling Coach and Mountain Bike Instructor, and Outdoor First Aider. I volunteer as a coach with a youth cycling club in Brighton, so Saturday mornings find me surrounded by 7 to 12 year old riders as they weave between cones or relay race around a cycling track.

I often make short videos of the Breeze rides I lead. If you want to see the kind of routes we ride and the women you'd be joining, check out my YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyv9CJ3uT5gGU5T5GH2qrkA
  • Mandy Buxton
    Mandy Buxton Hi Ladies,
I'm Mandy, or Dizzy as most people call me ;o)
I've been cycling for most of life, can't remember not ever owning a bike!
I am really excited to be a Breeze Champion and am looking forward to meeting new people and helping them to enjoy cycling too.
As well as being a Breeze Champion, I'm also British Cycling level 1 cycling coach, and First Aider. I volunteer as a coach with a youth cycling club in Shoreham, Saturday mornings you'll normally find me somewhere on The Downs with a gaggle of U12's on MTBs.
I aslo volunteer at Lancing Community Bicycle Project, where we recycle/restore bikes & get them back into the local community, we also provide free resources for anyone to repair their own bikes,
