Social Cycling Groups in Leicester
There are two early ride routes, north and south, which are alternated each week, taking in some of Leicestershire’s scenic countryside and country lanes. Please note that every other week, the north route includes many challenging hill climbs. The South route is mostly flat with a few short hills.
Meeting point is Desford Crossroads (at the bus stop opposite the A47 Petrol Station) at 8.10am returning to the same place for 10am.
Anyone joining the early ride must be able to of keep up a minimum pace of 13mph on flat roads. The ride pace on the day will then be adjusted accordingly to the slowest paced riders (minimum 13mph) in order to keep the ride as a group. The group will always stop and wait if necessary after each of the hills we climb until the last rider has rejoined the group, so you will not get left behind. For new riders wanting to join an early ride, unless you are a competent rider who knows they have no problem with the minimum pace, we recommend you join our social ride first. If you have any concerns, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Ride leaders will be on hand most weekends to guide you around the routes, keep the group together and to help those who encounter mechanical difficulties, punctures, etc. A ride leader (when available) will always assist the riders at the back who maybe struggling to ensure everyone completes the ride safely. Weekly posts of the Sunday Early Ride will be made on the club’s website forum events page and also on our Facebook page so we recommend you check these.
Occasionally it cannot be guaranteed that a ride leader will be available that day. A note will be put onto the weekly advertised ride at least 24hrs before the ride when this occurs. At these times other riders can still meet up and enjoy a ride together if they want to. The ride will still be advertised each week on the club’s website forum events page and Facebook. It is recommended that you post on either of these to check if other riders will be joining you.
All juniors under the age of 18 years may join the ride providing they bring along a signed parental consent form or are members of the club. Juniors under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Juniors aged 16-17 years may join the ride alone providing that there is a ride leader available that weekend (see above).
The Sunday early ride will only be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions and a ride leader will advise everyone of this on the Facebook forum and club’s website events page at least 1 hour before the start of the ride. Please check either of these before leaving home to ensure the ride has not been cancelled.
So what are you waiting for, come out and enjoy a Sunday early ride with Leicester Forest Cycling Club.
