University Challenger - Strong Plus

Sunday 31st March at 9.00am This is what time the ride will set off. It’s best to get to the starting point at least 15 minutes beforehand to avoid missing the start.

Starting Point & Postcode
Munrow Sports Centre, University of Birmingham Edgbaston B15 2TT
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
3 hours 10 mins  (2 hours 30 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Sky Ride Local in Birmingham

Challenging rides on the road for adults onlyIf you’ve been riding a road bike for a while, and perhaps been thinking about joining a cycling club, these rides – brand new for 2012 – are for you. The prospect of a speedy pace over twenty to fifty miles, and the strong likelihood of some hills thrown in along the way, means our Ride Strong Plus rides are not for the faint-hearted.

Come and join us on this challenging, hilly route, with almost 400 metres (1300 feet) of climbing. We escape the City limits quickly and head out into the accessible, beautiful countryside that makes Birmingham such a great place to live. We takle the Waseley Hills, head through Catshill, push on straight over the Lickey Hills and pass through Barnt Green. What a ride, come on let go for it!

If you've already tried one of our Ride Strong Plus rides and you're ready for the next challenge, why not try a British Cycling Sportive?

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Gareth Somers Gareth Somers Hello "Sky Riders"

I came back to cycling some several years ago with an eight mile Sunday morning ride to try and get fit for my first thirty two mile charity ride.
Then I truly got the bug, I love being out on my bike in all weather especially in the sun and ridding with like minded cyclists.
I joined the Skyride team in 2013 and love to see the enjoyment people get (both young and old) from getting out on the bikes and exploring the countryside.I hope you enjoy your Skyride as much as the ride leaders do!
Really looking forward to spreading the word of how much fun cycling can be, lets hope the sun shines this summer on our Sky Rides!!

Ride safe, looking forward to meeting you on your next Sky Ride.

  • Jon Clements Jon Clements My third year as a Ride Leader now and I've even planned some of the routes after completing the Route Planner course. I'm a keen cyclist and runner, and have taken my bike over the Fred Whitton course, as well as over the French Alps. I'm always impressed by the enthusiasm of the cyclists on the SkyRides and look forward to meeting more.
