Sky Ride Local in Bolton

If you’re fairly confident on your bike on dirt and gravel surfaces and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Off-Road Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, there is barely a metre of tarmac in sight on these rides so come and enjoy the scrunch of gravel and the squelch of mud under your tyres with us! Rides are between 6 and 15 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

This route is ideal for anyone wanting to try and take their cycling a bit further and increase their mileage. Starting from Bolton Arena, we’ll ride cycle paths and quiet roads between rail lines and waterways to Queen's Park in Bolton. There'll be time for a drink and snacks before returning to the Arena. Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Jim Taylor
    Jim Taylor Hi,
I’m Jim Taylor and have been cycling for the past 16 years. This is my 3rd year as a Sky Ride Leader and each year the variety of rides has just got better. Cycling has given me immense pleasure over the years and the opportunity to help other to also share that enjoyment is the reason I became a Sky Ride Leader.
For the past 2 years I have been a Volunteer Bike Leader for Wigan Leisure Services Active Living Team which aims to help people get back cycling. The rides are all off-road and are suitable for beginners and those who are a little more confident.
I am also a volunteer ranger for the cycling charity Sustrans. This entails promoting the work of Sustrans at various events and helping to maintain, sign and promote cycle routes on the National Cycle Network.
I look forward to riding with you all to provide plenty of enjoyment and fun on all the rides.
  • Gerard Broughton
Gerard Broughton Hi my name is Gerard and this will be mythirsyear as a Sky Ride Leader. I've always had an interest in cycling since I got my first three wheeler when I was about 6 years old - a long timer ago!

I enjoy all types of cycling from touring to big downhill (though I dont go as fast as some!).

Over the last couple of years I've done a couple of overseas trips - one to Marocco which was mostly big ups and fast downs. I also spent a couple of weeks cycling through Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam which was a super experiance and one which I will never forget. I am now planning another trip to Vietnam and Laos for the end of this year.

I really enjoy meeting people on Sky Rides and getting to talk to everyone. Looking forward to meting you.
