Breeze Bike Rides in Bradford

Details

It's midwinter and the solstice and Christmas are coming up.  Brighten your day by decorating your bike (and yourself)* with a midwinter/Christmas theme and getting out on this warming, social ride.

This ride takes the back road route from Ilkley to Otley.  The road follows the River Wharfe for a way out of Ilkley, goes through the villages of Asquith and Weston, then down into Otley where it crosses the Wharfe at Wharfemeadows Park on Bridge Street.  There are some great views and usually some red kites to be seen circling above the fields in Asquith, on the look-out for prey. When we get to Otley we have the option of stopping for a look around and refreshments. We'll leave town via North Parade, taking a look at an interesting bit of topiary en route ;-)  There is an alternative cafe stop on the return journey - at the Cockpit Farm Tea Rooms in Weston - www.cockpitfarmtearooms.co.uk/  we’ll return to Ilkley along the same route.  This is a round trip of about 14 miles.   This is a road ride and although it isn't a busy road the ride does involve dealing with some traffic so you need to have some experience of riding on the road, although you'll have the support of the Leader and group.  This is Yorkshire and there are hills, but you can always get off and walk!  On Breeze rides we always go at the speed of the slowest person so you won't be left behind! All women are welcome on this ride, including newcomers to Breeze rides. What to bring You need to have a bike that its in good working order and to dress appropriately for the weather: several thin layers are good, so you can add/remove them as needed; a shower-proof jacket might come in handy too! Wearing a helmet is advisable. Please bring some water and a snack to top up your energy levels. Contact tel. number 07725 743305 (Anna) I look forward to meeting you and riding with you!

*Decoration is optional.  If you do decorate your bike remember to have regard to safety!

Meet the Champions

  • Anna Green Anna Green I started riding my bike again in 2011 after a long spell of inactivity; soon afterwards I came across the Breeze Ride Leader training course and jumped at the opportunity!. I love being on my bike and the freedom and buzz that it gives me (and I'm much fitter for it too!) I

n 2012 Breeze gave me the opportunity to train as a cycle instructor with British Cycling - something I had wanted to do for a long time - and I now work as a cycle training instructor.

In 2012 I also registered as a SkyRide assistant leader.

I've set myself goals and targets over the last 2 years and have taken part in some long and difficult rides. My crowning achievement to date was to take part in the White Rose Classic this year (2013), cycling 84 miles in the Yorkshire Dales on a blisteringly hot day in July (on a Dawes Galaxy!) - and I went out an Ilkley CC ride the following morning!

Breeze has certainly given me the motivation to get back on my bike and get fit again! It's great to be able to encourage other women into cycling.
