Thousands enjoy traffic-free cycling at Sky Ride Hull
Published 19 August 2012
Sky Ride Hull has been a massive success with eight thousand people taking to their bikes and enjoying a traffic-free bike ride around the city. Participants cycled a 6km route that took them through Hull's historic quarter, down to the marina and around The Deep.
Dan Goodey, Recreation Manager at British Cycling, said: 'Sky Ride Hull has been brilliant! It's great to see so many people riding their bikes and enjoying the entertainment. Local Ride Leaders and Breeze champions have done a fantastic job speaking to lots of people about the ways they can keep cycling after today's event.'
There was something for everyone at the event, with lots of activities for the whole family to enjoy. Samba music created a party atmosphere, cycling polo demonstrations entertained spectators, and pedal-powered scalextrix was a big hit with everyone. The children’s BMX area was also very popular and over 80 youngsters took part in Go-Ride Racing and got their first taste of competitive cycling.
Sky Ride Hull is part of a series of fantastic summer events organised by British Cycling and Sky. There are lots of Sky Ride Local rides taking place in Hull to keep you cycling this summer. Find out more about Sky Ride Local.
