Thousands enjoy the sunshine at Sky Ride Southampton
Published 1 July 2012
Southampton was bathed in sunshine this Sunday as 12,000 people of all ages got out on their bikes and cycled around the city, all in the name of Sky Ride. The traffic-free route weaved its way around the city passing through the glorious Mayflower Park, Guildhall Square and with special access along the waterfront and Southampton Docks.
Some six hundred youngsters got a great taste of competitive bike riding thanks to Go-Ride Racing, and the bike doctor was busy all day checking and maintaining bikes of all kinds. Down at Guildhall Square there was live music, great food and some fantastic street theatre displays.
Ray Craig, British Cycling's Cycling Officer for Southampton, said: 'What an amazing day! It's been just brilliant to see so many people enjoying the freedom of riding their bikes together. Now we're hoping they'll keep it going with some of the other great rides we've got lined up this summer.'
