Thousands enjoy a great day of cycling in Stockton-on-Tees

Stockton-on-Tees is the latest location to join our celebration of cycling, with an amazing day of bike riding for everyone. 8,000 people enjoyed Sky Ride Stockton-on-Tees and the elite Premier Calendar cycle race through the town on Sunday 8th July.
The sun shone as cyclists of all ages and abilities took part in the 7.4k Sky Ride, using some great bike routes and traffic-free roads, and taking in Stockton's waterside. It was the perfect ending to Stockton’s Cycling Festival.
‘It’s been such a unique atmosphere today,’ said Peter Riddell, British Cycling's Recreation Manager for the North East. ‘Being able to share part of the route with elite cyclists was a real treat and just made the event even more special. I hope this inspires everyone who took part to continue to ride their bikes and join our Sky Ride Local rides.’
There was plenty of entertainment on hand throughout the day, with BMX and Zumba displays, Go-Ride Racing for children, and the busy British Cycling Bike Cafe a great place to relax. It was also an ideal opportunity for local people to meet Ride Leaders and Breeze champions and find out more about other free bike rides coming up in the area.
