This Valentine's Day: why we love cycling

Valentine’s Day is all about wearing your heart on your sleeve. What better time then to celebrate our love of that special feeling you get when you’re out on your beloved bike?
We’re setting the ball rolling by getting colleagues at the British Cycling office in Manchester to share some of the reasons they love bike riding so much. Then it’s over to you for a chance to win a prize by telling us why you’re head over heels in love with cycling...

Stewart Kellett

Stewart Kellett loves cyclingStewart is Director of Recreation & Partnerships at British Cycling, heading up the team that works with partners Sky to bring you a range of cycling for fun programmes. He doesn’t always wander round the office looking this dreamy, but is quick to define just what it is about riding a bike he loves so much: ‘It’s about freedom, friends and lots of fun. And of course it’s about the cake and coffee!’

Emma Bates

Emma Bates loves cyclingEmma helps loads of you set up your own groups and rides through Social Cycling Groups, British Cycling’s social network for cyclists. She says: ‘I love cycling because it gives you the freedom to go wherever you like, whenever you like. It’s great exercise, helps protect the environment and boosts sustainable transport. It also gives me a fighting chance of getting where I need to be on time!’

Jonathan Powell

Bike-mad Jon works on the Sky Ride Local programme, making guided rides accessible to thousands of people each year. He says: ‘I love cycling simply because every time I ride my bike I escape from the here and now and get transported back to when I was 12, where every bike ride was a big adventure!’

Natalie Justice

Nat says she loves cycling because ‘it gives me so much in so many different ways; gets me from A to B, keeps me fit and healthy, gives me time to spend with friends and most importantly I love being out in the fresh air stumbling across new places.’
