The fantastic four - Ride Leaders of the month
Published 28 June 2012
This month we'd like to congratulate four Ride Leaders who have been doing fantastic work for Sky Ride Local.
Congratulations to Peter Simmonds – A cycling enthusiast who is on a mission to promote the many benefits of cycling. As a Ride Leader and Bikeability trainer Peter works with all age groups delivering led bike rides in and around Leicester. Peter said ‘I am shocked to win this award. Sky Ride Local is a great innovation and I look forward to meeting new and established participants on the Leicester programme.’
Richard Himan was taken back when he found out he was one of our Sky Ride Leaders of the month, but he needn’t be. After finding his love for leisure cycling again in his early 40’s, Richard became a Ride Leader. Since being involved he has led lots of rides with some lovely participants and formed many new friendships. Aside from leading local rides, Richard also enjoys planning new cycle routes with themes of historical interest.
A big thank you to Steve Hill, who has been leading Sky Ride Local rides and planning routes since the programme began in 2009. A club cyclist for over 50 years, Steve enjoys a wide range of cycling activities – time trials, road racing, off-road riding and touring the UK. ‘I really enjoy cycling, it’s a relaxing pastime. To be awarded a prize for doing something I enjoy is a great surprise.’
Our final Ride Leader of the month is Kate Jenkins, an energetic leader who has planned four cycle routes in Watford and even secured council permission to run an easy level ride in a park where cycling is prohibited. Kate says ‘the Sky Ride programme helped me to get back in the saddle and I am looking forward to meeting lots of new people for fun, sociable bike rides in the Buckinghamshire countryside.’
Congratulations and a big thank you to Peter, Richard, Steve and Kate from everyone at Sky Ride!
