Preston cycling Sky Ride Local winner

Preston City Council celebrate a fantastic year of cycling and surprise one lucky Sky Ride Local participant with a signed Team Sky jersey.

This year Preston City Council, in partnership with British Cycling delivered a fantastic series of free bike rides and a great Sky Ride City event. To celebrate this success they organised a prize giveaway for the person who took part in the most Sky Ride Local bike rides this year.

Octavia Annand (above right) took part in 12 Sky Ride Local bike rides this year and is now the very proud owner of a signed Team Sky jersey. A special presentation was made to Octavia at Preston City Council last week.

Octavia’s Sky Ride story began in 2009 when she wanted to find an enjoyable way to keep fit. After trying out the gym, a jogging club and even Roller Derby, she decided to give cycling a go and try Sky Ride Local. Over the past three years Octavia has gone from a beginner bike rider to regular cyclist through the Sky Ride Local programme. In 2011 she challenged herself to complete a Ride Strong bike ride; something she wouldn't have thought possible in 2009. 'It was a real challenge but I did it and I'm so happy. It's great to see how far I've come' said Octavia.

This year, as well as taking part in the most Sky Ride Local bike rides in Preston. Octavia also became a Breeze Champion and she is now passing on the advice and encouragement she was given to other women who want to start riding a bike. ‘Cycling has had a big impact on my life, I’m in much better shape now and I've had a great time with lots of new cycling friends.’

Congratulations Octavia from everyone at Sky Ride and enjoy your prize!
