Our latest amazing ride leaders of the month
Published 10 November 2012
Say hello to Steve, Stewart and Anthony - British Cycling Ride Leaders of the month and find out why they enjoy leading fun, local bike rides.
Steve Emsley started cycling a couple of years ago after a friend gave him a beat up old bike. After riding it a few times to test the brakes and gears he discovered a hidden passion for cycling. Since then he has taken part in Sky Ride Manchester, lots of Sky Ride Local rides and become a British Cycling Ride Leader. Steve said ‘it’s an honour to be rewarded for something you enjoy so much. I’m living proof that Sky Ride Local can help people get back on their bikes and enjoy cycling again.'
As a child, Stewart Lewis loved riding his bike, racing around the local park on his Raleigh Burner BMX. Fast forward about 15 years and Stewart rekindled his love for cycling when he took up mountain biking. As an out and out recreational cyclist, Stewart enjoys the freedom cycling offers and wanted to share this with as many people as possible. So he became a Ride Leader and has been delivering lots of free, led bike rides in Newcastle-under-Lyme this year. ‘Winning this award is the icing of the cake’ says Stewart, ‘just seeing the enjoyment and fun my participants are having on their bikes is reward enough for me.’
Cycling is a massive part of Anthony Harley’s life and something he literally couldn’t do without. So when the opportunity to become a British Cycling Ride Leader came up earlier this year, he jumped at the chance. As a newcomer to the Sky Ride Local programme, Anthony saw it as a fantastic way to meet new people and introduce them to the fun of riding a bike. He said ‘I’m absolutely delighted to win ride leader of the month, being rewarded for something you love doing is a real bonus.’
Congratulations to Steve, Stewart and Anthony from Everyone at Sky Ride!
