Local Cycling Hero: Tom Morton
Published 2 September 2013
Winner in the South East region: Tom Morton from Ashford
The huge amount of work that goes into running a cycling club is often unnoticed, but when it comes to offering support and encouragement to club riders, Tom Morton always goes the extra mile. ‘I’ve been riding for a club since I was 12 and I’ve never known anyone to be so supportive of a group of cyclists,’ says Jodie Hope, who nominated him for an award.
‘Tom really wants the best for everyone and will help in any way he can.’
Tom works tirelessly behind the scenes for the PMR@Toachim Club based in Ashford, organising events and training trips, repairing bikes, and even loaning out equipment. He’ll often get up at the crack of dawn to drive across the country to help riders in races, getting them prepared and then roaring them on from the side of the road. ‘Tom really wants the best for everyone and will help in any way he can,’ says Jodie. ‘He really is a Local Cycling Hero.’
