Leicester celebrates pedal power in style
Published 26 August 2012
Leicester basked in this amazing summer of cycling as Sky Ride Leicester came to town on 26 August. With Team GB's recent success at the Olympics, and the first ever British Tour de France winner, local people showed they've never been more excited to get out on their bikes and have fun.
16,000 inspired residents took to their bikes and celebrated with a traffic-free ride around some of the city’s finest sights. And with plenty of fun and activities for everyone from grandparents to toddlers, Sky Ride Leicester has been a real family day out. There were plenty of activities and entertainment all around the five mile route, including BMX displays at Abbey Park, an Art Attack area at the Town Hall Square, Go-Ride Racing for kids, and even a Scootability trail at the Mercury car park.
‘What a day’ said Janet Hudson, Recreation Manager for British Cycling. ‘This is the fourth year for Sky Ride Leicester and it just gets better and better. The atmosphere has just been incredible and it’s been a fantastic route to ride around.’
If this spectacular event has inspired you to continue cycling, check out the Sky Ride Local rides taking place in the region every Sunday.
