Congratulations to September’s ride leaders of the month
We are happy to announce our three Ride Leaders of the month – Steve Jones, Abbie Orton and Ray Wand.
In May 2011 after a long time in the garage, Steve Jones from Kent decided to dust off his bike and start cycling again – since then he’s hardly stopped pedalling. In the last 18 months he has mountain biked in the Alps, entered countless charity cycling events and become a Ride Leader with British Cycling. He now has a small collection of bikes and regularly rides to work and back, all 46 miles. Steve said ‘I am absolutely delighted to have won this award. The feeling of belonging to a group of dedicated ride leaders is great and the satisfaction of helping others get into the wonderful world of cycling is just brilliant.’
Abbie Orton is a self-confessed lover of cycling and has been since she was a child, riding a BMX bike for many years. In the last three years she has enjoyed getting out on a mountain bike and joined the exciting world of adventure racing. Earlier this year Abbie jumped at the chance to become a Ride Leader and has been delivering lots of great Sky Ride Local rides in Plymouth. ‘I enjoy every minute of it’ says Abbie, ‘the best part of being a Ride Leader are the smiles you get from all the participants who are having fun riding their bikes.’
As a British Cycling Ride Leader, CTC member and Sustrans Ranger it’s fair to say that cycling is one of Ray Wand’s greatest pleasures. Most of the time he rides his bike for fun and to keep fit, but he has also been known to challenge himself with the odd sportive ride. Ray said ‘I am flattered and surprised to win this award, especially as I work with such a fantastic group of ride leaders’. The Sky Ride Local programme is great; I enjoy meeting new people and helping them gain confidence on their bikes.’
Big congratulations to Steve, Abbie and Ray from Everyone at Sky Ride!
