Breeze Manchester

Welcome to our new feature where we shine the spotlight on our Breeze Networks across the country.  We'll be telling you more about the Networks and the champions involved – including the rides taking place, the excellent work carried out by the champions in that area, and an insight into what makes that Network tick!

First to feature is Breeze Network Manchester. The network was the very first local Breeze network to be set up and have led the way in terms of social media promotion. The network has a strong presence on Facebook and Twitter. Rides are taking place across the Manchester area – look out for more rides coming soon on the Breeze website!

Breeze champion

Angela Walker
Angela is an active Breeze champion in the Manchester area, helping to organise and deliver the weekly Debdale to Fallowfield ride. Angela also co-led the Breeze ride to Sky Ride Manchester and has taken part in some publicity work for the Breeze Network. Recently, Angela completed her first aid training with British Cycling to assist in delivering her Breeze bike rides. Angela's motto is 'Everywhere looks better when you travel there by bike!'

Emma Lawrence
Emma actively helps deliver Breeze bike rides in the Manchester area, but she's also taken a fancy to the hills of the High Peak. Emma started cycling three years ago, partly due to a knee injury and also because she was involved in various environmental campaigns. At first, she was put off by the hills, but started slowly, making short local trips or riding on quiet trails. Now she's a little bit bike mad and rides whenever she can from off-road, on-road, to the shops, to work, with family and friends – you name it! She feels fitter and stronger now and puts it all down to the addictive powers of cycling (and a bit of yoga too). For Emma, the social side is an important factor: "Being a Breeze champion gives me the chance to share my enthusiasm for cycling with others and gets me out on my bike too. If you're interested in a change of scenery, look out for the High Peak Breeze rides!"

Debbie Cox
Debbie is a founding member of Breeze Network Manchester and has been riding a bike for over 40 years!  Over the last two years though, she's developed a specific interest in mountain biking and is often to be seen whizzing down nearby hills. Debbie enjoys all sports and meeting new people which makes her a great Breeze champion!

Katie Brandon
Katie has introduced some great rides for women and children in the South Manchester area recently, and regularly leads rides near the River Mersey past nature reserves, woodland and rivers. If you fancy a ride with the family, then look out for Katie's!

Angela Hilton
Angela has been assisting Breeze bike rides across the Manchester area and is a founding member of Breeze Network Manchester. Angela co-delivered the very first Breeze bike ride in Manchester in June 2011.

Yvonne Nelson
Yvonne is a keen cyclist and is a member of several clubs – North West Dirt Divas, NWMTB Ladies and The Bog Trotters. When Yvonne isn't encouraging others to get on a bike, she loves nothing more than the challenge of mountain biking. She's a fully qualified as a SMBLA Trail Cycle Leader, British Cycling Accredited National Standards (Bikeability) Instructor, Level II Outdoor First Aider and British Cycling Level II Ride Leader/Accredited Route Planner. In addition, Yvonne works freelance and for several local authorities and NHS Trusts as a Cycling Instructor, teaching adults and children to ride a bike for the very first time and ride safely on the roads. With all this experience, she's been a great support for Breeze Network Manchester.

We rcaught up with some of the members of Breeze Network Manchester recently and asked what advice they'd give to new champions. Check out their video.
