All about Breeze

Big Breeze Bike Ride

British Cycling’s Breeze is the biggest programme ever to get more women into riding bikes for fun. Our aim is to help thousands of women feel confident and comfortable about going on a ride.

As interest in women’s cycling reaches heights undreamt of only five years ago, and cycling superstars like Laura Trott, Sarah Storey and Lizzie Armitstead add an extra dose of girl power, British Cycling are leading the way in getting more women on their bikes, with their ambitious vision to get one million more women cycling by 2020.

We’ve spoken to lots of women and done our research to understand the reasons why women are discouraged from cycling, which include lack of time, confidence and feeling safe riding a bike. We’re trying to provide as many cycling opportunities as we can in a nurturing and friendly environment.

Our programme wouldn’t be where it is today without our inspiring Breeze champions. A network of over a thousand passionate and enthusiastic female volunteers help deliver the programme, organising hundreds of fun, free, local bike rides throughout the country, every week. Rides go at a speed that suits everyone, and they often start or finish at a cafe so everyone can have a drink and a chat. We currently have almost 200 bike rides for women on a weekly basis. We’ve also been trying to make bikes more accessible to women, through hire schemes and female-friendly bike shops, along with our women-only mass participation events.
