Experienced cyclists wanted!

Could you help run guided rides to and from the Mayor of London's Sky Rides?

We're running guided rides for beginner cyclists who want to cycle to and from the event, but aren't used to cycling on the road on their own.

Each guided ride will have a ride leader, and we're looking for experienced cyclists to help them marshal the ride. Marshals will be provided with lunch as a thank you!

On volunteering to be a ride marshal, you will receive a briefing document from the London Cycling Campaign that explains your role. Your ride leader will also contact you with more details.

Terms and conditions for marshals

  • By volunteering to marshal you are giving permission for your data to be shared with the London Cycling Campaign, who will use this data to enable the rideleader to contact you by email
  • Each volunteer ride marshal must register in advance
  • Each volunteer ride marshal must provide their own bike, which must be in roadworthy condition
  • Please make sure you arrive at the time given to you by the ride leader. Rides will leave promptly at the given departure time
  • Volunteer ride marshals are responsible for their own safety at all times
  • All volunteer ride marshals must be aged 16 or over
  • Volunteer ride marshals will be expected to cycle at an average speed of 8mph for theduration of the ride. The rides may stop at certain points to re-group and for instructions from marshals
  • Volunteer ride marshals are reminded that the guided rides will take place on public highways amongst traffic and that the rules of the Highway Code should be followed at all times.
  • Volunteer ride marshals must be confident and capable of riding on the road
  • Ride leaders reserve the right to refuse participation to any volunteer ride marshal
  • No payment will be made to volunteer ride marshals, although you will be given a complimentary lunch
  • Cycling can be strenuous and riders must be in good health. Marshals who have any doubt about their health or have a medical condition that could be affected by exercise, particularly a heart condition, should consult their doctor before participating.
  • Marshals should consider wearing a cycle helmet.  Marshals should also carry suitable means of identification clearly showing their name and the contact number of a relative or friend who should be contacted in emergency.
  • Sky and Transport for London are not liable for injury, loss or damage caused or sustained as a result of taking part, howsoever arising, nor can they accept any liability for any changes made to the ride for safety reasons or as otherwise planned through circumstances beyond their control.
  • Sky and Transport for London and their agents may take photographs of the ride and Marshals for publicity purposes. By registering to participate in the ride either on your own behalf or upon behalf of any other rider including those under the age of 18 years, you agree that photographic images of you, containing you, or of those under the age of 18 years upon whose behalf you have registered, may be used by the Sky and Transport for London for publicity and statistical purposes.
